We finally got our computer!!
I have been feeling pretty good lately. I had a lot of fun in PA for Thanksgiving. Now I've been trying not to freeze. We had a storm roll through and lost all power for a couple of days. That was kind of interesting, but a nice change of pace.
I am going to Rochester next week. On the 12th I have a MRI at 10:45am and a Neuro CT at 2:30pm. On the 13th I have a body CT at 9:15am and a consultation at 3:00pm. I will update when I find something out.

Sorry its been so long. We are getting our new computer soon.
The biopsy on the bump on my head was consistent with ewing's sarcoma. I thought maybe I was growing a horn or something. Apparently the cancer had gotten into my bloodstream and stop and made a home in the soft tissue in my head. The good news is the surgery was very successful. I will be having a follow in about six weeks. More doctor appointments and tests. Sound like a lot of fun to me, not really!!
I have been feeling pretty good. I have quite a bit of pain now and then but I'm getting use to it. Been working and trying to keep my mind occupied on something other than cancer.

My head feels much better today. It's still a little on the sore side, but getting better. I stayed an extra day in Minnesota to get some rest and to let things heal a little more before driving home. I am glad I did.

I have a really BIG headache!!!
My surgery went well. PTL!! They did a lot more cutting then I thought they would but atleast I don't have something growing out of my head anymore.
I may have misled some of you a little, but here is the deal. The scan of my chest showed nothing, which is great meaning the radiation was very successful. PTL!! That doesn't mean there are no more cancer cells growing, it just means they can't see any growing at the time. Hopefully radiation got all the stray cells also, but it may have not or there could be some where they didn't do radiation. Bummer!! Which may be the case with this growth on my head. I will let you all know as soon as I find out. I Praise the Lord for the success of the radiation. Now I pray that nothing else shows up. Thank you all for your many prayers and please continue to pray. I have a lot to accomplish in life still and don't plan on going anywhere anytime soon.
Just a little side note: Jenae got a pony the other day and it is really cute to see her with it. Hopefully pictures coming soon.

All through with the doctors today. The CT Scan came back negative. No More Cancer!!! PTL!! Nothing showed up on the scan. PTL!!
Tomorrow morning, at 8:45am, I am having this lump removed off my head. They will run a test on it to make sure it is nothing, but I won't get the result for about a week or so.

I haven't been feeling the greatest. Last week I got the flu or something and my back was really hurting. So I called and moved my appointments up to tomorrow. I have a CT scan in the morning and will speak to the doctor in the afternoon. I will let you all know what is going on.

I hope everyone is doing alright. I have been feeling pretty good. Last weekend I went back up to Zumbrota, MN for a birthday party. I am staying home this weekend then I will be off to do some judging. We still don't have a computer, but hopefully we will have one by November.

Just a quick message to let everyone know that Shane made it home safely yesterday. While Shane was off "getting zapped" with radiation, our home computer got zapped itself, and is no longer functioning at all. So until we get that problem resolved—or replaced—updates may be fewer & farther between than normal. If you have sent an email recently, please don't be offended that we have not replied!
Thanks for all of your continued prayers and support while Shane was away for treatments. A HUGE thank you to the Brunners, Idlers & everyone else in Zumbrota, MN, who took Shane in and treated him like family. Shane loved staying with you and meeting all of his new friends. You were a true blessing to Shane as well as for those of us who couldn't be there with him. The words "thank you" don't begin to express our appreciation for you.

Another day down and only 3 more to go.
Today I went to the middle school and talk to the kids about following your dreams and never giving up. I showed them a little bit of my tape from riding and than answered a few questions. Overall things went pretty good.
I haven't been feeling the greatest the last couple of days. I am pretty uncomfortable and its getting tuff to eat. Three more treatments I think I'll make it.

All done for today. Treatment went well. Just 8 more treatments to go.
I spoke with the doctor and he just reconfirmed the CT scan was negative and that everything with the radiation was going good. He did say a tumor showed up on the left side of my head, just above my temple, but it is benign. PTL!! He said if it was bothering me I could have it removed or it may just go away on its own. I don't think I want any more surgeries so I'm going to leave it alone.
My head isn't as sore today and I haven't been having head aches, so that is good.
Tomorrow treatment is at 7:15am.

I'm done with treatment today, that leaves me with 9 to go.
I spoke with the doctor right after my treatment about my head still being sore and I also am getting a head ache when I bend down and when I come back up. No sore have shown up on my head so I am thinking it isn't shingles, but it has to be something. I am having a CT scan of my head at 12:30pm this afternoon.
Tomorrow I see the doctor for my weekly check up at 1:45pm and my treatment will be at 2:30pm.

Treatment went good this morning and I only have ten more treatments left. PTL!! I did have to see the doctor this morning. My head has been getting really tender, so I thought I would get it check just in case. It is possible I am developing shingles, but we are just going to watch and see if any sores develop. Lets pray it's nothing!!

Todays treatment went well. The doctor thought everything was going very good. He said I won't have a scan done until about 3-4 weeks after my last treatment.

My throat feels a little better today. The doctor gave me some medicine to numb my throat before I eat.
Treatment went good today. They have narrowed the field down and are treating from a different angle. Emphasizing on the larger mass in the middle of my chest.

He said his treatment went fine although it took longer due to the computer problems. They didn't get his appointment set for tomorrow (again, no computer!!). I took a Tuesday drive to the Mayo Clinic and back yesterday. What a fun and long trip!! They got me set up to start radiation on Monday the 8th. They even gave me a couple of tattoos, that they use to make sure I'm in the same position every time. Just three little dots though, they wouldn't draw a picture or anything for me. I have to do 31 treatments.
1 should be finished the last week in September. As long as I don't skip to many days to judge rodeos.

After having more tests done, including a PET scan, Shane's tumors are believed to be isolated to the one right next to his heart and the other one in his left lung. (Good news that no other new problem areas were discovered.) At this time, they are considering radiating those two areas with high-dose radiation and then radiating a larger portion of his chest cavity with low-dose radiation. The plan proposed includes a 5-week radiation regime which Shane would have done at Mayo Clinic (in Rochester, MN). He will have radiation Monday-Friday, every day for that 5-week span. He may start this therapy in 1-2 weeks, depending on a final decision from the team of doctors there as well as scheduling issues.
More information will be posted next week. You can also look for new pictures of Uncle Shane & niece Jenae Whitaker; those photos should be up Monday or Tuesday!

Shane has appointments at Mayo Clinic on Thursday and Friday of this week. Thursday he will be meeting with Dr. Okono, the sarcoma specialist. Friday he will be meeting with Dr. Shickell from radiation.

Shane received some discouraging news today as his test results came back and it wasn't the news we'd all been hoping for. His tumors—one next to his heart and one within his left lung—have grown and have grown fairly significantly considering his last tests were done less than 2 months ago (5/24). He has already talked to his oncologist at Mayo (Dr. Okono) and they are setting up appointments to decide what steps to take next. More information will be posted as it's known.

Happy Birthday to me!!
I hope everyone has a wonderful 4th of July.
I caught a little cold last week and I think I finally got rid of it. I came home for a few days to rest. I thought that would help.
Every once and awhile my chest really aches. It usually goes away after a little bit but it doesn't really feel all that good. I pray that the Compin I am taking is killing it, which is making it ache a little.
I'm leaving today for South Dakota to judge another rodeo. I have been having a good time judging and seeing friends I hadn't seen in awhile.

I had a great time with my dad. We did a little fishing and got away for a little while.

I hope everyone had a nice long weekend. I had a good time in Houston.
I got behind on my pain medicine one day, which I hope I never do again. I was in an awful lot of pain most of the day Saturday. Other than that I had a really good time.
On Sunday we went to the Lakewood church, which was pretty amazing. An experience I won't forget any time soon. After church we went to six flags and had a great time. We had to stick around the house monday so I could get a little rest.
Now its back to work for me. Life can't be a total vacation I guess. It's a good thing I enjoy working.

Yesterday I had a CT of my chest taken and my blood work done. I recieved the results today. My blood work looked o.k., My white count and Platelets are a little low but everything else is within the range. My CT scan showed a very slight increase in size of the nodule in my left lung. The mass in the middle of my chest looked unchanged from the previous scan.

I am feeling pretty good. I am getting tired throughout the day and having to rest a little, but everyone needs a nap. I have to watch myself about being outside too long because the heat really takes it out of me.

I didn't have any cavities!!! PTL!! The only thing the dentist found was a chipped tooth, which has been chipped for about five years.

I'm home and feeling pretty good. I had a great time helping my brother. We could of use a little nicer weather but we had fun.

My brother Jesse needed help delivering his brochures, so I am traveling the state of South Dakota delivering brochures. Yesterday we were delivering brochures in the rain and snow. It has been quite the adventure. They are suppose to be getting 8 to 10 inches of snow.

Hello to you all. I hope everyone is having a wonderful week!!
Last week was not a very good week at all. The chemo just seems to be making me sicker and sicker. I have decided to stop my chemo treatments for now. If I really get to craving chemo again I might have to try it again. Until then I am taking a well needed break.
I truely appreciate all your prayers and ask you to continue praying for my cancer to go away.

Yesterday wasn't the greatest day for chemo. They still weren't able to use my port and my veins were not cooperating at all. We were able to get through and I am actually feeling ok today. I think we should be able to use my port today or I hope so anyways.

Day one down, but not uneventful. I have an infection in my port so they will have to stick me in the arm until the infection goes away. If it doesn't clear up they will have to jerk the port out and put another one in. This cancer stuff is really getting on my nerves.

What a great weekend. I judged the rodeo in St. Paul, MN this weekend. I was able to see some friends I hadn't seen in awhile and learned a lot about judging. Overall I had a lot of fun and have been feeling pretty good.
Today I start my chemo again as long as my counts are good. I pray that the chemo won't bring me down so much this time.

I am not feeling very well this week and it is starting to bring me down.
I visited with the doctor from the Mayo Clinic. He is wanting me to do two more rounds of chemo and then do my tests again. So two weeks of chemo, then two weeks off, then two more weeks of chemo. I am not too sure I am up for that. I feel like I'm in a no win situation.
My dad, grandfather and brother Jesse are coming for the weekend. That should be fun.

Well things are coming back pretty slow for me this round. I don't think I quite have the energy I should. That seems to be more of a problem the more times I do chemo. I don't like feeling like I have no energy to do anything!!
Today I will have a CT of the chest done in O"Neill, NE. I'm not sure when I will be getting official results back but I will let you know what results Doctor Drury comes up with. I am not doing any more chemo until I find out if this chemo is working. If it is working I'm sure I will most likely continue chemo for awhile.
We are having some beautiful weather, I hope everyone gets out and enjoys some of it. Remember to enjoy life too!!

I'm halfway through for the week. PTL!! I haven't been feeling all that bad. Last night I slept really well. I actually didn't wake up till about 12:30 this afternoon. I guess I was really tired. I most likely won't sleep that good tonight, but who knows.

Four days of chemo remain. Today went alright, I am a bit on the tired side but hopefully I can get a little rest tonight. After this week I will be having tests done to see how well the chemo is working.
I want to thank everyone for all the prayers and messages you have been sending my way, I feel they really help especially on the days when I'm not feeling so great at all. I have been very blessed to be surrounded by so many kind people. Thank You!!

Happy Birthday Hope & Chip!!
I hope everyone had a wonderful Easter. My brothers were here for the weekend. It is always nice when the three of us can get together and hang out. I started to feel a little better Saturday afternoon and we ended up going bowling and watching the basketball games. They both headed for home after church on Sunday. A short visit, but it was fun and relaxing.
I start my second week of chemo tomorrow. I am going to try and take things a little bit easier this week, so what happened last week does not happen again. I kind of scared myself a little bit.

Day one is in the books. It went pretty good. I worked until 2, then went up and did my chemo. I am feeling pretty tired tonight. Hopefully I can get some sleep so I'll feel good enough to go to work in the morning. I have a pretty good routine started. I'm going to try and stick with it all week.
It rained here last night and most of the day today. PTL!! It was needed. We received .70 here at the Drury Ranch.

I hope you all had a great weekend. I was pretty sore all weekend and didn't get much accomplished. Instead of not being able to sleep, I could not stay awake. I think all those nights of not sleeping finally caught up with me.
I also had to get a haircut this weekend. My hair was really starting to fall out from the chemo, so I had to breakdown and have my head shaved. After going through that a couple times you would think it would get easier, but I think it actually got harder. Not only do I feel sick, but now I look sick.
Tomorrow I start my chemo again. I will have chemo for two weeks, than I will have my tests done and talk with the doctors to see what we do next.

Surgery went well this morning. PTL!! My chest is a little sore now, but other than that I am feeling alright. I will find out next week how well the port works. I start my next two weeks of chemo Monday.

Jesse seems to be back to normal. PTL!! The doctor aren't sure what was wrong with him or why it happened. It was kind of a crazy ordeal. Thank you for all the prayers.
I am feeling pretty good. I have been working quite a bit. It kind of wears me out a little, but I really enjoy it.
I am not looking forward to having a port put in my chest, but I guess it will make things a lot easier. It just isn't very comfortable, especially the first few months.

I am feeling pretty good today. I have been having a pain in my chest, but for the most part things are good and I feel blessed.
I am spending a little time with my brother Jesse in Sturgis, SD. He had a doctor appointment Monday, which didn't amount to much. Hopefully, with time, things will get better. He seems to be doing fairly well right now. He has a little trouble remembering, but I think he is getting better.

Not feeling the greatest at all again today, but after I take my pills tonight, no more chemo til March 21st. I will have to see the doctor before then and will probably have a port put in my chest sometime next week. Not looking forward to that but it will be easier overall, I guess.

I am feeling really well this week. The chemo hasn't hit me too hard yet. I get a little tired but for the most part things are good.
I have been able to work a few hours everyday this week before I go in for my treatments. I really enjoy that, plus I'm surrounded by some wonderful people.

Jesse is now in Denver, CO with my dad until his next appointment, which is on Monday the 7th. He hasn't had much improvement, so I pray time will help heal him and the doctors will be able to figure something out at his next appointment.

Jesse seems to be getting a little better. The doctors are thinking he may have had a mini stroke but they are not for sure. His MRI and CT Scan looked good, so that is a plus. PTL!!
I didn't have a very good day, but tonight is going a little better. Two more days left, then I have the weekend off. I am really looking forward to that.

Jesse was released from the hospital today, but has to have someone with him 24 hrs a day at least until Friday. They still don't know what is causing his sudden memory loss. I talked to him tonight and he said he doesn't remember anything, but he knows he loves me. Please continue to pray for him.
I finished my second day of chemo today. Not really feeling the greatest but I'll get by.
My chemo will be given different then I thought. I have five days of IV & pills, the weekend off, and then five days of IV & pills again. After that I get two weeks off. Then lucky me I get to do it all again.

I have a prayer request of my own. Something happened to my brother Jesse and he has lost his short term memory. Nobody was with him, so we don't have a clue what happened. He is in the Rapid City Hospital for the time being. I just pray for his full recovery.

Tomorrow is the big day, I can hardly wait. Maybe I'll leave tonight, so I can be there when they unlock the doors to the cancer center.
I will be going to Kearney, NE to visit with the oncologist and start day one of my first chemo treatment. The treatment consist of 5 days of IV chemo, 5 days of pills & 5 days of IV chemo again. Then I will get two weeks to recuperate and we will start the fun all over again. After the second treatment, I will have tests done to see how things look, at that point we will decide what to do next.
I am getting really excited about tomorrow, with all this excitment I can hardly sleep at all. Although I would be missing out on all the fun, I'm willing to let someone fill in for me if they wish!!!

News from Mayo Clinic: Shane will be starting chemo again soon. He is going to try the last "approved" chemotherapy treatment for Ewing sarcoma. This regimine will consist of taking chemo for 5 days, pills for 5 days, and then having 2 weeks off. He will do 2 of these chemo cycles and then retest to determine effectiveness.
Dr. Okono said surgery is not really an option due to the tumor's close proximity to the heart & lungs.
Will let you know more as the schedule gets clearer...

From reading the report about Shane's CT, this is what we know: He has a 4cm mass near his heart. He also has an area in the lower left lobe of his lung and in the middle of his right lung that are of concern. All of these findings are new since his scans on 12/13/04. Looks like he has some busy cancer cells at work! We will know more after his appointment with Dr. Okono at Mayo Clinic on Thursday.
Pray that Shane will be able to get some sleep one of these nights. He has hardly slept since he first got this news. He is now on a new pain medicine so hopefully that will help contain some of the pain he's been experiencing.

As you can imagine I didn't sleep at all last night. I am just really confused.
I have to go to the Mayo Clinic on Wednesday the 16th so they can run a blood test. On Thursday the 17th I will visit with the doctors to decide what to do about this tumor.
